Mechanical Animals: Album of the Week

6 12 2007

Marilyn Manson – Mechanical Animals
it’s not produced by Trent Reznor but it’s still very excellent. A lot more “mechanical” sounds. It doesn’t fail to make me sing along. From it’s swing rhythm in “Rock is Dead” to the beautiful acoustics of “Coma White”, the album covers over many genres. It’s very space-oriented. it’s what I expect when I think of space rock. not like Hawkwind. My favorite has to be “Last Day on Earth” because I can play it on guitar, hah. Also, “I don’t like the drugs, but the drugs like me!” why am I singing?

Runners up:
Genesis – Trick of the Tail
“Dance on a Volcano”! great intro to a song. also, 7/8 time, gotta love it. makes me antsy – which is a good thing. “Entangled” – best song on the album, very dreamy/dream-like. the rest of the album is so/so. but it’s without Gabriel so it shouldn’t be that good. when they try to be progressive, it’s good. but when they lean towards pop, they fail. “Los Endos” great song too.

Ol Dirty Bastard – Return to the 36 Chambers
“Snakes” featuring Killah Priest, RZA, Masta Killa & Buddah Monk – Genius. Very “underground” sounding. and no one can replicate Big Baby Jesus’s Voice, he’s so unique. Rapper and terrible singer, but at least its not digitized, and everything that commerical rap is, which is shit.

Britney Spears – Blackout
Just kidding.
