The good news is this: There are a variety of paths within the field of psychology if you’re willing to make the educational commitment. Whether it’s being a counselor in a private practice, an organizational development psychologist or psychiatrist, the job outlook is favorable.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment among all psych-related occupations is expected to grow faster than average through 2014 thanks to increased demand for psychological services in schools, hospitals, social service agencies, mental health centers, substance abuse treatment clinics, consulting firms and private companies…
While the five-year Ph.D. is known as a traditional academic, research-oriented degree, the Psy.D. degree, which takes four years to complete, develops skills associated with clinical practice…
